Carli's Opera

When you are in kindergarten, you get to do all sorts of fun things. Go to the zoo, a dairy, playtime, and sometimes the chance to do an opera. Mrs. Hellersten's class has been doing an opera since Kadia had her years ago. This year Carli got to do the opera called "Are you a horse?" Its based off of a book and was really cute. They made up the lyrics and painted the scenery. There were a lot of fun characters and Carli got to be a cowgirl.

This is the whole class in costumes. This opera has a really cute ending :)

Smithfield Royalty

So there seems to be some royal blood running through our veins around here. Kirsten has worked hard these past couple months preparing herself for the Smithfield Health Days Scholarship Program. She had an interview that afternoon and then later in the program gave about a two minute self-presentation, did the walk onstage, and then answered an impromptu question. Apparently the judges liked her and she was chosen to be one of the five equally reigning royalty members. We can’t wait to see her in parades in her bright dress.

Thanks to the hair crew backstage – couldn’t have done it without Kendra and Carrie. Also thanks to all who came!!! Love You!!!

Surgery…..Again

In case you didn’t know Kendra has had some trouble with her tear ducts. One of the ducts does not drain well and so she had a tube put in to help stretch it out. Unfortunately this didn’t work and so Friday she went down to Salt Lake for another surgery to hopefully help fix the problem.

This is Kendra and her doctor right before her surgery. It took five tries and once in her foot before they were able to find a vein.

Sky View Vistauns Region 2011

Friday Jan. 28th was the long awaited region performance for Kirsten and Kendra at Box Elder High. They had been working toward this all year long and were ready to perform. The Vistauns performed amazingly, but once again did not score high enough with the judges to be sent to State. Their dances are first Military, then Jazz, and finally Kick (Yes they were Barbies!!). This is the hardest region in Utah 4A and you can definitely tell because it was a very close race between the schools Bonneville, Mountain Crest, Logan, Ogden, Box Elder, and Sky View. The surprising thing of the night was that, following in her sister’s footsteps, Kendra wowed us all by placing third in drill down.

Kirsten’s Senior Academic Achievements

Kirsten is on a roll this year with her academics….she qualified and applied to be a part of a club at her school called Academic Olympiad. Open only to seniors, there were 9 students chosen from the applicants who were the top in academics. As a member of the club she met during her lunch hour Tuesdays-Thursdays at the beginning of the school year  in teachers classrooms to get a review/overview of different subjects.

Then on Wednesday Nov. 17th The team took a day off school and went up to USU to compete against about 30 other teams from throughout the state. Taking four tests in the morning which she called “the ACT on steroids” on subjects math, English, science, and another that pretty much asked anything they wanted.

After lunch all the teams participated in “Star Wars” (still don’t know why its called that, because it has nothing to do with the movies). This was pretty much a trivia with difficult questions including who saved the Hollywood sign from being destroyed and who received a nobel prize for the development of in vitro fertilization.

After all was said and done they awarded medals for the top placing teams in each test category and in Star Wars. Sky View did amazing and placed 1st overall in performance on the math test.

1st math overall

Next they placed 2nd overall in Star Wars

Pretty fun and successful day for the team!!!!

Now we have just recently found out that Kirsten received the Academic All-State Award for 4A Drill team. Of 34 girls who applied only 10 were awarded.

Kirsten was awarded at the end of State Drill Friday Feb. 4.
